WEEK 2 (PASSAGE OF TIME)

WEEK 2 [documenting time]

Sacrifice for light.

This week was about documenting time through simple pencil sketches.   The context of time may be within seconds but this is a symbol of one duty and how every object sacrifices itself for human gains. This collection of images of matchstick burning and slowly dying while providing us with light. As an interaction designer context used in this array of images is to convey to people how sketches can communicate processes easily and how simple sketches can turn into micro animation which further could be used as assets for building up websites, apps, etc.
#1

Technique- sketched the normal matchstick with exact dimensions to keep the size consistent across the frames, and later traced with a fine liner pen.

Tools- pencil HB, fine liner 0.2
#2

Technique- tried to replicate the first frame with a small flame on the head and also sketch a little bit of the body which is burned.

Tools- pencil HB, Fine liner 0.2
#3

Technique- tried to replicate the first frame with a little bigger frame with tapered down body conveying during of the stick

Tools- pencil HB, fine liner 0.2
#4

Technique- tried to replicate the first frame with a big flame and body tapered down halfway through.

Tools- pencil HB, fine liner 0.2
#5

Technique- last frame was done studying normally burned matchstick, the body is irregular and tapered down towards the very end.

Tools- pencil HB, fine liner 0.2

[WEEKLY REFLECTION]

At first, during this activity, I was a little reluctant to draw and convey the passage of time through sketching as I am not very good at drawing stuff. But after quick sketching and scribbling with different ideas, I found out that conveying ideas through sketch is a simpler process and does not need to be very good at drawing. I tried to keep every frame consistent, alongside learning how fine lines could give details with simple strokes(used in drawing the flame). I was able to create different textures and surfaces through minimal line work which also gives the sketch a unique identity. I also played around with frames to create a micro animation that is more relatable to my discipline(interaction)  as it can be used in virtual projects.
